President’s Message - July 2006

Dear Alumni & Friends:

Welcome to the Edmonton Eskimo Alumni Web site. This site will hopefully provide information for Eskimo alumni, friends, family and football fans. The site is managed by number 23, Angelo Santucci and number 63, Hector Pothier, and any comments, feedback or queries should be directed to the webmasters. Thanks also to Hector for using his school contacts to help further upgrade and maintain our site. I guess the 50 years of rich Eskimo tradition should read 54 years.

At the latest board of directors meeting, elections were cast and guess what, I am returning as President to serve the Alumni for one more year (thanks for the sentence, guys). Charlie Turner will remain on the executive as past-president. See the Alumni Directors link for further names of your association. My job is made easy due to the countless hours that the past and present board of directors do in a volunteer atmosphere to be involved in our mission statement. Our association has come a long way in promoting amateur football in Edmonton and area, providing a recreational and social setting for our members and providing many grants to charitable organizations.

The Alumni participates in many charitable activities (Golf Tournament, Wine Fest, Grey Cup, etc.) but one very positive result of our activities is the building of our Alumni Igloo Room at Commonwealth Stadium. Over the past three years we have enhanced our room and we shall continue to do so until we have completed our renovations. This is a great room for viewing Eskimo games, holding our board meetings, hosting the Eskimo player barbeque and numerous other events throughout the year. Stay tuned to the website or from newsletters sent by Shona for updates on our work in this area.

The committee has established some of the guidelines for room use and policy on decorating the walls with football paraphernalia. Our room has become the social meeting spot for all members at Eskimo home games to enjoy a few beverages and talk football. Thanks should go out the Eskimo football club and the City of Edmonton for making this room a reality.

Playing football for the Edmonton Eskimos for 8 years was an awesome experience, especially winning five Grey Cups in a row, and the alumni want to pass on their best wishes to the 2006 team in green and gold and sometimes white.

Regards,

Brian Fryer, President
